ISK is the currency in the game. ISK has value outside of the game as well. It can be used in game to purchase game time. Doing this will allow you to not pay any real world cash to pay for your subscription.

[edit] Buying and Selling ISK for Real World Cash

Buying and or selling ISK for real world cash is a violation of the terms of service for the game. Penalties for doing so can range from having the ISK removed from your account and a fine in the same amount being levied on your account to having your game account terminated.
